Romario ‘Romiekon’ English is the co-founder and a director of British Linkz LLC. British Linkz is an independent entertainment company that employs modern marketing strategies to drive the products of the Jamaican music industry to international acclaim. By providing the fuel needed to create successful campaigns, the team of professionals has been able to start up engines and pilot the careers of several big names in the Jamaican music industry including reggae and dancehall acts Spice, Mavado, and Jahmiel.
Adding to his, and the company’s repertoire, English, more popularly known by the sobriquet Romieikon, has appeared at conferences, local events for the promotion of music and culture, and has been called upon as a consultant/advisor for professional knowledge by media houses. He also writes and publishes for digital media. When not hard at work, English and British Linkz remain an active force online through social media.
Today, English is gearing up to release his highly anticipated ‘Channel 28’ rhythm which he previewed across social media platforms recently. let’s jump into the conversation!
Hello Romiekon! Nice to meet you, please tell us what everyday life is like where are you from?
My everyday life consists of listening, planning, pitching, and almost all things relating to music while being myself and getting by daily. I am from Montego-Bay Jamaica but now reside in NYC.
Your style is very versatile, where does your inspiration come from and who would you say inspires you the most?
To be honest, I would say most of my inspiration really came from my upbringing in St James, I was exposed to many scenarios that I think I’m expressing in an art form (music/artworks)
Listening to the Beat Zinc Fence Rythm and hearing the younger artist on the track was dope. It had me wondering do you plan to cultivate your own collective or label?
Well as of right now the label is a one-man band, I do foresee a future where I would enlist others and try to positively groom their potentials as far as I can.
You are getting ready to release the ‘Channel 28’ rhythm, can you tell us a bit about this highly anticipated rhythm?
It’s an awesome attempt of putting a compilation mainly focused on our female audience and the ever-changing relationship dynamic of the modern couple. From infatuation to being deeply in love. Channel 28 was also known in my community as the place to watch “x” rated movies. The compilation features frequent acts that I work with Kacique, Devin Di Dakta, Deeclef & Xx3eme, the new acts Jae Prynse and Knaxx.
What strengths do you have that you believe make you a great musician?
Strengths I would say are; being innovative, brave, very calculated, and a great communicator.
Do you have any weaknesses that you’re actively working to improve on?
I would say I was a bit too patient with others, now I have a better system to deal with delays.
Tell us about your rhythm which was released in honor of Dane Sortie.
The “HungOver” project with Dane was a very special project for me, it was the first-ever working an official Riddim with someone from the western section of Jamaica (where I am also from) and we wanted to bring “joy” back for the younger audience, a beat that would instantly want them to move their bodies, indulge in other hobbies and just have an overall good time. We called it, the “forever party” and unfortunately, Dane had passed away a week or two prior to the release of the project. So I like to believe that it was actually his forever party.
What can we expect to come after you release the ‘Channel 28’ rhythm?
You can expect more authentic Dancehall, more genre-bending tracks, more collaborations.
When you are not focused on music, what do you do that inspires your artistic endeavors?
Spending time with family, doing minor home renovations, and trying out different cuisines normally gets my mind going.
Do you feel the impact of social media has helped the independent musician more so now than in the past?
Yes, it gives everyone a somewhat fair chance to showcase their talent and with enough creativity can help musicians go up a few levels free of cost. Back then it was more of a 1 in every 10,000 chance to break if depending solely on talent and no real financial backing.
Musically, who is your biggest inspiration and how do they inspire you?
My biggest musical inspiration would be my high school music group Block Q, almost every single production or my taste in music I would credit to them and our memories, our hopes, and our dreams at that age. Simply put I’m just living my dreams every day through music.
Who is your favorite artist to work with and why?
‘Young’ artists, to watch, add to, and assist in developing their craft and careers is just a thrill.

No.
